Bible Study Class 2003-2004

The Bible Study Class is held from 0900 to 1000 on the second Sunday in the month, followed by an informal breakfast. The programme covers the period 12th October 2003 to 11th July 2004 inclusive.
We have been fortunate to find that distinguished theological scholars, some of our own as well as from other denominations, have been prepared willingly to share with us their knowledge of the Bible and related matters. We have examined topics from the Old and New Testaments, including the Gospels, the teachings of Paul and the major and minor prophets.
We are breaking new ground in the coming year and it is strongly recommended that as many as possible of the Castle Street folk should attend. The expectation is that we will be fortunate enough to share in a more complete understanding of the Biblical narrative than most "ordinary" people like you and me, that is those of us lacking special training in theology, can normally have laid before them. Dr Michael Thompson, Vice Principal and Lecturer in New Testament at Ridley Hall, Cambridge will broaden our understanding from a modern perspective of the teaching of the Apostle Paul and his relationship to the historical Jesus. |

14th December 11th January |
Caroline Ainger will lead us in a study of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the relationship between the Scrolls and the formative years of Christianity. |

8th February 14th March 4th April |
Professor Ron Clements Emeritus Professor Of Old Testament Studies at King's College London will lead us in a study of Deuteronomy, the fifth of the books ascribed to Moses. Professor Clements is renowned internationally for his extensive published work on Deuteronomy. He expresses concern that Deuteronomy - a "second giving" of the Law of Moses - and the Old Testament as a whole should be read and considered in the light of the teachings of Jesus Christ. |
